Hi, I own a Compaq Presario CQ57-364EA and mine has a recovery partition installed in the factory on the hard drive (D: in Windows). You can use this partition to access HP Recovery Manager without launching Windows, which you can then use to restore the system using Windows System Restore or alternatively do a factory reset from the system image on the recovery partition. But your laptop may not have a recovery partition, especially if it is a netbook.Forgot to mention - to launch the recovery environment press F2 repeatedly immediately after pressing the power button and select the relevant option (Recovery Environment) from the list - forgotten the exact 'F' key and can't be bothered to reboot!!!
