Failed Reading The Magic Number Mapping File
Jun 27, 2012 Hi guys, I have a problem - loaded new IOS image onto 3750 *.tar file. Problem with booting 'magic number mismatch' Hi guys, I have a problem. Magic number checking on storable file failed at././lib. Process and folking process cause 'Magic number. Just try reading them with the retrieve method.
I tried to load my R workspace and received this error: Error: bad restore file magic number (file may be corrupted) - no data loaded In addition: Warning message: file ‘WORKSPACEWeddingWeekendSeptember’ has magic number '#gets' Use of save versions prior to 2 is deprecated I'm not particularly interested in the technical details, but mostly in how I caused it and how I can prevent it in the future. Here's some notes on the situation:. I'm running R 2.15.1 on a MacBook Pro running Windows XP on a bootcamp partition. There is something obviously wrong this workspace file, since it weighs in at only 80kb while all my others are usually 10,000. Over the weekend I was running an external modeling program in R and storing its output to different objects. I ran several iterations of the model over the course of several days, eg outputSaturday.

After I removed that 0 size file, my 'cover' worked fine to merge all the data and generated HTML file. The 0 size file, I think, is because some test was killed for timeout because of the slow-down of the test process since we instrumented all test and product scripts with Devel::Cover.
When the test process was killed and terminated abnormal, I think, Devel::Cover was still trying to grab the test process to. If you manage to kill the process while it is writing out a storable file the file will very probably be corrupted. How are you killing the process? Are you sending it SIGKILL (9) for example? Maybe you could send it something a little nicer which might allow to process to clean up. Devel::Cover does its work in the very last END block.

We are trying to integrate Devel::Cover into our regular test driven development process, to make Devel::Cover, the amazing code coverage tool in Perl world, work correctly with our test to improve the data accuracy is very critial for us to move forward with the code coverage tool.

So if you can send a signal which can be caught, and then set up a signal handler which cleans up (if necessary) and then exists the program, that should allow things to work better. You might like to consider USR1 or USR2 for this, if you are not already using them.

Although Devel::Cover collects data the entire time a program is running (unless you turn it off at some point), the data will not be saved until its END block is run. This will normally be the very last END block. This means that unless you let the program run to completion the coverage data will not be fully saved. You might hinder this process by calling exit, calling exec, sending SIGKILL or doing anything else that stops normal completion of the program.

But the scripts you are calling with system will not have any coverage data collected unless you have arranged for that in some way. And if you do that, the coverage data for those scripts will be written as soon as the scripts exit.
